The Beginning

In a building that was originally constructed in the 1835, The original Little York Tavern was established in 1981 on the corner of Little York Rd and North Dixie Dr. With the atmosphere of an old-time tavern, it was a well-known local hang-out for those seeking a good time with a laid-back atmosphere. In 1988, the addition of food came into the mix when a long-lost pizza recipe was brought back to life, and Little York Pizza was opened to supplement the Tavern business. Before long, Little York Pizza was a major draw to the people of Vandalia, Butler Township, and the North Dayton area.

In 1994 a game room was added on to the original building which allowed space for many more people than could occupy the old place. People came for the pool tables, the live music, the camaraderie, and of course, the PIZZA and sandwiches! Delivery of food was available for those in the area who wanted it at home without leaving home!

The Now

Business thrived, and the word spread, making LYT the local hot-spot, until a county road-widening project forced the owners to allow the building to be demolished. In July 2005, the building was torn down. It was decided that instead of putting up a new building on the same property, the location would change, and the Little York Tavern was moved about a quarter mile east to the corner of Little York Rd and Poe Ave.

The new building boasted 4 times the square footage than the previous location, and a kitchen that allowed for a huge expansion in the variety of menu items offered! This relocation project took about 6 months, but the Little York Tavern and Pizza was back up and running in March of 2006. A year later, the largest patio with an outdoor bar in Montgomery County opened, allowing patrons to enjoy the food and beverage outdoors when the weather permits. Summertime rocks with live music on the patio.

Today, 25 years after the first pizza was sold, the recipe has not changed. The thin crust made on-site has become a local favorite, and we are the famous in the entire area for our “Home Grown Pizza”! We offer a wide variety of menu items from sandwiches, awesome wings, home-made soups and salads. And of course the Tavern has the atmosphere to cater to any crowd, young and old alike!
